The Biancocelesti coach revealed he targeted up to 10 players to replace Hernanes, but they all rejected the opportunity to join the club.Lazio coach Edy Reja has revealed that as many as 10 players rejected the chance to join the club during the transfer window.
The Biancocelesti lost midfielder Hernanes to Inter on deadline day and tried desperately to find a suitable replacement, targeting, amongst others, Juventus forward Sebastian Giovinco and Parma’s Jonathan Biabiany.
But Reja confirmed that every one of their targets turned down the opportunity to join the capital club.
“There were around 10 names that we wanted to replace Hernanes, but they all rejected us. Juventus have a few players who were of interest to us but they also said no,” Reja told a press conference.
“We asked for Sebastian Giovinco, but nobody wanted to come to Lazio. It was upsetting for us.
“Jonathan Biabiany seemed to be a done deal, but evidently he was happy at Parma.”
Reja also revealed that Lazio attempted to convince Hernanes to remain at the club but the 28-year-old rejected the offer of a new deal in order to move to San Siro.
“Up until a few days ago, I never considered that Hernanes would leave,” added Reja.
“The president had proposed a new five-year contract, but he said he preferred other options.”
Lazio lie 10th in Serie A and will continue their push for a European place when they travel to Chievo on Sunday.
